Both Bruce Sterling as well as the organizers of Tweakfest have allowed me to publish a recording of the speech that Bruce Sterling gave at this years Tweakfest. It was recorded using my Powerbook and it’s built in microphone, so sound quality is, let’s say “challenged”. Still, Bruce can be understood without problems. After the question about “what happend to Foldershare” got answered (Microsoft bought it), the Mac version is back online, the only thing left, that left me wondering, was the question what was going to happen to the US$ 100 I spent just a week before the acquisition on the Foldershare professional service. Now that also has been answered: You will be receiving a refund for your subscription at a pro-rated amount. Changes will go into effect early November; FolderShare subscribers will be refunded the pro-rated subscription fee in the week of Nov 7th. Well done, thank you Microsoft / Foldershare. You earned back quite some goodwill with me again. ...

Tweakfest ist gestern zu Ende gegangen. Ein paar Dinge sind nicht in voller epischer Breite gebloggt, aber ich finde die Zeit dazu nicht mehr. Nur kurz zum Panel uber “Copy Right”, das eine Diskussion zum Urherberrecht versprach. Obwohl die Panelisten einiges zu sagen hatten (ein PJ Wassermann hatte sogar eher zu viel zu sagen und wurde von der Moderation nicht immer rechtzeitig gestoppt) blieb es bei einer unbefriedigenden Debatte. Eigentlich waren sich alle in den Grundzugen einig, lediglich Details differierten (Hat die SUISA nun Creative Commons umgesetzt oder nicht). Ich hatte mir (wie schon bei der “Big Brother” Diskussion) mehr Diskurs gewunscht. Ein Teilnehmer aus z.B. der Musikindustrie hatte sicherlich auch fur mehr Stimmung gesorgt. So blieb das ganze langatmig und leider eher banal. ...

Cornelia Sollfrank, Netzkunstlerin Net.Art Generator sucht Bilder im Internet (Kunstler / Stichwort) und baut neue Bilder zusammen. Wer ist der Autor eines solchen Bildes? Das Programm? Der Computer auf dem das Program ausgefuhrt wurde? Juristisch ist dagegen erstmal nix einzuwenden. Leider scheidet Software / Computer aus, weil nur Menschen Urheberrechte erwerben konnen. Der Programmierer des Programs? Daher soll auch der Programmierer als der Autor der erzeugten Werke gelten, denn seine kunstlerischen Werte fliessen in die generierten Werke ein. ...

Very high degree of freedom. Pressure sensors. Different movies of the hand opening, closing, grasping things (spheres, cylinders). The hand is controlled by a neural network, fed by the the sensors (pressure and bending sensors) and the output is fed to the actuators that control the hand.
